6 Ways to De-Stress Right Now
You would probably think that summer is for relaxing, right? Well, if you have a similar life to mine, summer isn’t exactly stress-free. We all know that every day is a gift, but sometimes, we need to give ourselves a gift during the day: relaxing.
This week, I’ve been balancing out my stress with activities that make me…not-so-stressed. This post will be about some of the main things I’ve done this week (and others) that tend to help me relax—and I hope they do the same for you!
1. Turn “Do Not Disturb” Mode On
Whenever I’m feeling super stressed out, I like to take a break from the one thing that is with me 90% of the day—my phone. Since I don’t like to turn off my phone often, I simply turn it on “Do Not Disturb” mode. This way, I won’t be distracted with text messages, phone calls, etc. I usually do this a few times a week for about 30 minutes to 3 hours each day.
2. Take a Nap
While you’re phone is on “Do Not Disturb” mode, take advantage of the peace and quiet with a nap. My phone keeps my alarms turned on during this setting, but if you’re paranoid of oversleeping, set a normal alarm clock too. A quick 20 minute nap can do wonders for you. If you’re interested about learning how different napping times affect you, check out this article I wrote for I’mperfect Magazine.
3. Pull Out a Coloring Book
I used to love to color when I was a kid—and I still do. I tend to doodle all the time when I’m nervous, anxious, or stressed, and then go back and color in the details. If you don’t have the patience to draw out something, try picking up an adult coloring book, like this one on Amazon. Personally I think colored pencils are easiest to carry around, but feel free to use whatever you have—highlighters, markers, pens, etc.
4. Put Your Planner Away
Being organized is great, but sometimes looking at everything you have to do in a day—or within a few hours—can be super nerve-wracking. Try putting your planner away for a little bit and focus on each task you’re completing—ONE AT A TIME. Slowing down and taking things at your own pace will make everything so much better for you.
5. Call Your Mom/Dad
This week at one in the morning, I was super stressed and needed someone to talk to. Since I currently am living at home, I tossed and turned in my bed before finally deciding to talk to my mom. Even late at night, she was able to calm me down and make me feel better—she didn’t even mind me waking her up! Parents have a way of making things seem like they’re going to be alright, no matter what it is. Always remember that and don’t hesitate to give them a call. After all, you would do the same for them too.
6. Soak in the Tub
Baths really don’t get enough credit. They’re relaxing, time-consuming, and totally soothing. If you’re feeling all wound up, go find a Lush store, buy yourself a bunch of bath bombs, and start your bathtub. When you’re just about to get in, toss in part of the bath bomb (or the entire thing like I do), and enjoy your peaceful, beautiful-smelling bath.
