Wet N Wild MegaLast Catsuit High-Shine Lipstick | You NEED This!
Wet N Wild was one of my favorite brands when I first started playing with makeup as a young girl. 8-year-old me even kept a gold glitter gloss from Wet N Wild for about nine years because I was absolutely positive I was going to wear it at prom when I grew up (spoiler: I didn’t). It has always been a super affordable brand that I’m sure everyone and their grandmother have heard of or used before.
No shade to Wet N Wild, but up until the past few years, I don’t ever remember the brand completely wow-ing me on any pigments or products. I would say that over the past two years or so, Wet N Wild has been coming for the high end brands. Wet N Wild’s formulas have been blowing me away recently and I’m loving every second of it. I’ve had both the Photo Focus Foundation and Megaglo Highlighter in my go-to makeup drawer for the past few months—and only a few products make it in to (and rarely stay for long) that drawer so you know I’m loving it.
The most recent Wet N Wild product that has made it into not only my go-to makeup drawer, but into my purse is the MegaLast Liquid Catsuit High-Shine Lipstick—so let’s get right into it.
TEXTURE & FEEL
Although these high-shine lipsticks are technically, well, lipsticks, they look like a gloss when they’re applied. The formula itself is exactly a blend of creamy and glossy (imagine a Kylie velvet liquid lip and Fenty Gloss Bomb hybrid). It’s not really sticky like most lipglosses, but it does have a slightly tacky feel when you first apply it. Once it’s on your lips, it feels very comfortable and breathable. It’s not super lightweight, but it doesn’t feel sticky or thick either. You can actually press your lips together without your lips sticking together (AMEN!).
This lipstick doesn’t dry your lips out like normal long-wearing liquid lipsticks and that’s one of my favorite things about this formula. Will your lips feel super hydrated after eight hours of wear? Probably not, but they won’t feel dry and chapped either.
SHADES
These high-shine lipsticks are extremely pigmented and come in vibrant, beautiful 13 shades. The shade range mostly consists of colors in the nude, pink, berry, and red families. I personally don’t think there’s a single bad shade in this collection. My favorite shades are Send Nudes (light/medium nude), Flirt Alert (light neutral Barbie pink), Cedar Later (mauve mocha) and Bad Girl’s Club (soft strawberry red). I've included a couple swatches below.
Tip: If you’re looking at this collection in-store, make sure you’re paying close attention to the product. The Catsuit High-Shine Lipstick’s packaging looks identical to the other Catsuit Matte and Catsuit Metallic and is easy to be mistaken for. I have the Catsuit Matte in Coral Corruption and love the formula, shade, and wearability of it too; it wouldn’t be a total loss if you get them mixed up, but just make sure you double check the labels so you get what you really want.
WEARABILITY
If you’ve been following me for awhile, you might notice that glosses are traditionally just not my thing. I absolutely love the look of a glossy lip, but typically when I wear glosses, they end up either disturbing my lip liner (which I wear religiously; we love a defined lip line here on the blog), messing up other parts of my makeup, get on my teeth, or require constant touch-ups and applications. They’re just a bit too high-maintenance for me.
However, these high-shine lipsticks change the game for me. Once I put it on, it STAYS ON. I’ve gone at least six hours without having to touch it up. Even then, it still doesn’t loose it’s shine. It looks maybe slightly less glossy after a few hours, but really only a bit.
The best part about these for me is that it doesn’t disturb my lipliner at all! Yay for non-bleeding lip lines and shiny lips all in one! Even if you don’t wear lip liner (I’m only judging you slightly), you’ll still love these lipsticks. They’re extremely opaque, so you can redefine your lip line to even things out—or overdraw a bit—and you won’t have to worry about it coming off easily.
When it comes to removing the high-shine lipsticks, it’s relatively to get off (especially in the scope of long-wearing products) and I personally haven’t noticed any staining. I just use a makeup wipe and it comes straight off!
PRICE
These lipsticks go for $4 to $6 depending on where you buy them (I’ve seen them at Target, Walgreens, and Ulta) and I’m still in awe at the price. They are up to par with some of my other liquid lips that are $20+ each.
I’m almost embarrassed to admit this but once I tried my first shade of these liquid lipsticks, I realized how incredible they were and went back to the store a few hours later to get a few more because I was worried they would sell out soon (it's happened before). I don’t know when these launched, but I don’t know how everyone doesn’t know about these yet and why they’re not flying off the shelves. Do yourself a favor and go buy one (or save yourself a trip and buy all of them) to see for yourself.
