The Perfect Berry Lipstick For Each Skin Tone

Designers and trendsetters have been trading in their ruby reds and bright corals for a new, unexpected hue—berry. This fall, you’ll be seeing this sexy berry shade over the lips of gorgeous women. This mysterious bold color turns heads and creates confidence. So what are you waiting for?

Let me help you find the perfect shade for your skin tone.

For my fair-skinned ladies…

Opt for red-based plums. This color tone allows for you to pull off the plum as light or dark as you want to go. The base of the red will keep you from looking washed out.

Compliment the red-based plum lipstick with a red-based blush (apply minimally, of course—we want to go for the healthy glow look, not the embarrassed one).

Some of my favorites are:

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Vampira ($21)

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Vintage ($18)

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Red Ego ($30)

For my medium-skinned ladies…

Shoot for coral and orange based lipsticks. That sounds contradictory, but just picture a deep plumish raspberry color—that’s what you should be looking for.

Pair your raspberry colored lipstick with a champagne colored highlighter or illuminizer. This will give you that fabulous runway-inspired look.

Some of my favorites are:

Bite Beauty Luminous Crème Lipstick in Rhone ($24)

Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gel in Seduce Me ($30)

Clinque Almost Lipstick in Black Honey ($16)

For my tan-skinned ladies…

You’re lucky because you can pull off almost any berry colored lipstick. Personally, I think purple and plum shades look best, but feel free to pick any shade.

With purple and plum shades, trade in the bronzer for a purple-based blush. It sounds crazy, but the purple looks phenomenal and doesn’t appear so purple on the skin.

Some of my favorites are:

BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Lead the Way ($18)

Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick in Menace ($21)

Dolce and Gabbana Passion Duo Gloss Fusion Lipstick in Royal 110 ($36)

For my dark-skinned ladies…

Deep burgundy and rich purples are going to be your go-to shade. These hues make your lips stand out without being too overwhelming by other makeup.

Pair this color with a light colored highlighter dusted on your cheekbones and the inner corner of your eyes, and you’ll look like a fall-time goddess.

Some of my favorites are:

Stila Color Balm Lipstick in Ali ($22)

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Mat Lipstick in Grenat Satisfaction ($35)

Sephora Collection Color Lip Last in Elegant in Brown ($13)
