Delicious (Yet Healthy) Dessert Swaps for Fall

Fall is among us. This means cravings for caramel apples, pumpkin-everything, and sweet treats are going to eventually kick in. Savoring fall flavors doesn’t mean giving up desserts–it just means swapping some!

Below are some delicious desserts that still give you the taste of the season, but with a bit more nutrition.

If you like Candy Apples, you’ll love…

Peanut butter apple dip! Not only is this dip super healthy (and addicting!) but it only takes three ingredients to make!

For this recipe, all you need is Greek yogurt (I like to use non-fat vanilla), honey, and peanut butter.

  • For one serving, just mix 1⁄2 tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of Greek yogurt, and one tablespoon of peanut butter together.

  • Stir it until it’s creamy, and dip right in.

The dip itself is less than 150 calories, so you don’t have to worry about ruining your diet. Plus the protein from the peanut butter will help keep you full.

If you like Caramel Apples, you’ll love…

Caramel grapes! This recipe is by far the best for a dessert to bring to a party or for Thanksgiving dinner.

All you need is a bag of green grapes, crushed peanuts (or not if you are allergic), and melted caramel.

  • It’s super easy! All you do is poke a grape with a toothpick and dip it into the caramel.

  • Then, roll the grape in the nuts, and place it on a cookie sheet with wax paper.

  • After you’re done with the whole batch, place the sheet into the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

These are perfect to have in the house for if you get a sugar craving—but just remember to eat a couple, not the whole batch!

If you like Candy Corn, you’ll love…

Fruit “candy corn!” While this dessert doesn’t taste like candy corn, it kind of looks like it!

You’ll need pineapple, mandarin orange pieces, pear, and (if you want), Cool Whip.

  • Take a small cup and put in some cut up pineapple to create the yellow layer.

  • On top of the pineapple layer, add in some mandarin orange slices to create the orange layer.

  • For the white layer, I like to add a couple slices of pear.

  • Sometimes—if I’m feeling fancy—I’ll top it off with some Cool Whip.

If you love Pumpkin Ice Cream, you’ll love…

Healthy pumpkin ice cream! And guess what–you can make it yourself!

To make this pumpkin ice cream, all you need is 4 frozen bananas and 1⁄2 cup of pumpkin puree.

  • Just blend the bananas and the puree together in a blender until creamy.

  • You can eat it right then, or let it firm up a bit in the freezer.

The best thing about this ice cream is, is that technically it’s made from all fruit—but it does taste even better if you add in a couple dark chocolate chips.

If you love Apple Pie, you’ll love…

Apple crisp oatmeal! Couple this oatmeal with some pumpkin tea in the morning and you’ll have no doubts that it’s fall.

You’ll need Quaker Oats Apple Walnut Oatmeal, a single serve container of non-fat vanilla yogurt, a Granny Smith apple, cinnamon, and chia seeds.

  • Take the packet of oatmeal and mix it with a single serve portion of non-fat vanilla yogurt. Refrigerate overnight.

  • In the morning, take 1⁄4 cup of a chopped Granny Smith apple and top off your oatmeal.

  • Sprinkle a dash of cinnamon—or add some chia seeds—for more flavor.
