Feel-Good Makeup
We all have that face of makeup that makes our skin look flawless from every angle, but unfortunately feels cakey and heavy on our skin (because it is). That face of makeup is one that I like to call my "mask." Personally, I usually only wear my mask on special occasions, photoshoots, and nights that I go out. The other days of the week I wear my everyday makeup.
Everyday makeup should not only look more natural (I mean come on, we know that skin isn't really poreless), but it should feel more natural. It should feel light, soft, and pretty. But the most important thing that everyday makeup should feel is healthy.
I've laid out for you all below some of my favorite makeup that actually makes your skin feel good while its on. Of course some of these products are going to feel different for each person, but for me, these are the ones that make my skin feel the best. I hope this keeps at least some of you or gives you inspiration to go out and find some makeup that feels good on your skin too.
It only makes sense to start off with a primer first, right? Right. This primer is one that I use pretty frequently. It's not my favorite primer because I don't feel like it helps my makeup stay on longer than it does on its own, but it does give me a smooth canvas to work with. This primer also feels very soft on my face, which is something I look for in a primer since it is the first thing after moisturizer that goes on my skin. The product claims that its infused with minerals; I'm not very sure if that's true, but if it is, then that's even better!
Typically on a daily basis, I use my Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet foundation and I'm totally obsessed with it. However, when I am more than in the warmer months, I always reach for my Clinique foundation. (Side note: I have a very weird skin tone and I can't wear the Clinique foundation when I'm pale because no matter what shade, they look pink on me, so I use it in the spring/summer only. The Chanel foundation I have is my all time favorite, but I currently only have it in shades that work well when I'm paler). The Clinique Even Better Foundation is one of my favorites because it has SPF 15 in it, but doesn't give you that weird SPF-based cast in photos. I've actually found that the foundation does tend to correct my skin tone and make my skin appear more even when I don't have it on too after a month or so of continuous use. This foundation does give a medium to full coverage and does feel heavy at first, but after 10 minutes, it soaks in a bit and feels light on the skin--almost like a BB cream.
You guys all know how obsessed I am with this already, so I won't go on and on about it again. It's amazing and perfect. It is very lightweight on the face, blends out to the heavens, and even works for concealing acne and other imperfections on the face. The applicator is this cute little dome sponge thing, which makes it very fun to apply. It apparently has goji berry and haloxyl in it too. I honestly don't know what those do, but it makes my skin feel pretty.
If liquid foundation isn't your thing, or if you like to set your face with a powder foundation for extra coverage, I highly recommend PUR's 4-in-1 powder. I apply it with my Sigma F30 brush and it literally feels like I'm rubbing a cloud on my face. It's great. This is my "purse powder" and I've had several of my friends use it before and it's looked great on all of them. They all have very different skin types too, ranging from desert dry to super oily, and it seems to have stayed perfectly on all of them. It's also paraben-free and cruelty-free, so you have have a healthy conscious and face when you wear it.
I also really like wearing this powder as a contour/bronzer powder as well. If you just buy a shade or two darker, it should be a great match for a bronzer. I use the shade Tan for mine!
I don't wear mascara anymore (I mean sometimes I'll wear it on my bottom lashes), but when I did, I used Benefit's They're Real. This is going to sound crazy, but it made my eyelashes feel really good. I'm weird and I like to touch my eyelashes a lot, and when I had this one on, they felt strong and healthy. Plus when I took it off at the end of the night, they didn't feel brittle or make me lose any lashes while removing it.
This lip balm is everything. I wear this every single day and my lips are always super soft because of it. I get it in the mini jar container because I like that best, but it's totally up to you. I like how this looks alone and underneath lip colors. If I wear a lip color over it, I'll usually apply the lip balm right after my foundation, then let it soak in while I get the rest of my hair and makeup done. Right before I apply lip liner and lipstick, I'll lightly wipe the lip balm off. If I'm just going to the gym or running errands, usually I'll just wear this by itself though because it does have a light pink hue to it.
This balm stain is amazing. It's super moisturizing and give you a sheer hint of color. The newest one I just got was from my mom for Easter and is in the shade Pinky Promise. It's this really pretty light rose color with a slight shimmer in it. It makes my lips feel really smooth and the color stays on surprisingly well.
If you're a frequent Humps & Pumps reader, you were probably shocked by how many drugstore items I have in this post. But honestly, for everyday makeup when I'm not working, I use a lot of drugstore makeup. Part of it is because when I'm not working I don't like to wear a heavy face of makeup, and part of it is because my non-drugstore makeup is expensive and I'm not going to waste it by wearing it to go to the grocery store or the gym. Remember, everyday makeup doesn't always have to cost you an arm and a leg. Wear something on your skin that feels great and makes you feel confident. For me, my everyday, just-hanging-out face consists of these products in this post. Let me know which ones are your favorites and if you use any of the ones I mentioned.
