The 3 TED Talks Every Millennial Needs to Watch

I think it's safe for me to speak on most Millennials' behalf by saying that Millennials don't listen to advice very well. We like to think that we're right, and when someone tells us we're not, sometimes instead of realizing that we might actually be making a mistake, we have the tendency to think we need to prove them wrong instead.

However, one thing us Millennials do listen to is the internet. We're the, "Oh, I'll just Google it generation," and we're really not that ashamed of it. Videos, articles, and photos are where we get most of our knowledge from. From beauty videos to documentaries, we grow our skillsets by watching media.

That being said, Millennials are oftentimes very fond of TED Talk videos. They're short enough to keep our attention span and unique enough to keep us clicking through to the next one. Below I have three TED Talks that I feel are the most important for any (and every) Millennial to watch. So grab a snack, get cozy, and prepare to watch some of the most influential videos you'll see all day.

Millennials in Medicine

By daniel wozniczka

Medicine isn’t what you think it is. It isn’t simply a doctor listening to your heartbeat or performing a surgery. It’s more than that. It’s paperwork and long hours. But it doesn’t have to be that way for long. There’s a solution to medicine as it is now: Millennials. Daniel Wozniczka talks about how Millennials have the opportunity to change medicine and grow it into a system that is actually about true medicine. Millennials are a different type of generation that is full of intelligent, extremely educated, and motivated individuals. We like to change and to be part of something big. Healthcare is huge right now in the news (if you watch the news, you know that) and Daniel points out that we have the power to change it. With the power of intention, we can accomplish great things. Watch the video to hear about how Daniel predicts Millennials will be changing medicine as we know it. If there’s any video Millennials need to see, even if you're not in medicine, it’s this one.

Why 30 Is Not the New 20

by Meg Jay

Before you start to roll your eyes at the name of the title, watch the video. A lot of 20-somethings have been using their 20s as “play” years if you will. You feel like you don’t need to take anything seriously—your job, relationships, savings accounts—but the thing is, you should. These aren’t years to be taking as extra time to be a kid. Your 20’s give you time to prepare you for the rest of your life. It’s a time that you should be taking to educate yourself, work hard, and develop actual adult skills. Meg Jay explains it better than I ever could, so click the video and hear it for yourself.

What I Learned From 100 Days of Rejection

By Jia Jiang

There are so many amazing individuals out there with dreams as big as the universe, but some of those dreams never come true because they’re afraid of rejection. They’re afraid of hearing no; of feeling worried or embarrassed; of the possibility of the unknown. Jia Jiang talked about how his journey of getting rejected for 100 days and how he turned it into a life lesson of how to get what you want. You can work on making your dreams come true by taking cautious steps, or you can take a leap of faith and ask. Watch the video to hear about how he turned rejection into a tool of success.
