5 Reasons Why Athleisure is Your New BFF

Last week, I had a shoot modeling something very different for me: athleisure. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, athleisure is athletic wear that you can wear outside of the gym, but still look cute. So think joggers, but instead, swap out your sports bra and tank for a satin crop top, and kick off the sneakers and add strappy heels. All of a sudden, you’re ready to go to your favorite club, but you still have the comfort of your favorite gym joggers.

I don’t know why, but I haven’t actually tried the whole atheisure wear look in my own personal life. However, after modeling some really chic looks, I realized that I needed to give it a try. If you haven’t tried out the trend yet, here are 5 reasons to do so.

YOU CAN LITERALLY WEAR YOUR SWEATPANTS & LOOK CUTE

If you’ve ever been at home saying to yourself, “I wish I could just go in sweats, it’d make my life so much easier,” you’ll be happy to know that now, it’s totally socially acceptable. This is probably the most comfortable trend that I’ve seen over the past few years. Being able to rock your favorite pair of *sexy* sweats is just as comfortable as it sounds. However, to keep the look chic, make sure to pair it with a dressy top and heels—it’s all about balance!

YOU’LL BE ABLE TO JUSTIFY BUYING EXPENSIVE GYM CLOTHES

While I’m all about investing in your clothes, sometimes I cringe at the thought of buying $40 Adidas leggings. Most leggings are at a way lower price point, so spending that much on one item means I’ll have to wear it a lot. With athleisure now being such a mood, I know I will. Not only will you be able to be taking some killer cute selfies in the gym, but you’ll be able to work the same pants for drinks with the girls as well. If you think about it, you’re really getting 2 pairs of pants for the price of 1 (kind of).

IT’S SO EASY

All you have to do is take any piece of athletic wear, throw it on, add a basic, more fancy clothing item, and ta-da, you have the perfect outfit. There’s not much of a science to it other than making sure you balance out the casual item with dressy ones. Plus, most athletic clothes tend to come in everyday, wearable colors (black, grey, white, blue), so chances are, you probably already have something to match it in your closet.

THERE’S TONS OF INSPO

So many celebrities have been rocking the athleisure look lately. Gigi Hadid, Jourdan Dunn, Kendall Jenner, and Rihanna are the first to come to mind. If you’re ever stuck on what to pair your athletic items with, you can search for inspiration from just about any celebrity or Instagram model. Also a great place to find inspiration are websites that sell the clothing. Typically they have the athleisure wear look styled flawlessly, hoping that you’ll buy the entire look.

IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE EXPENSIVE

While brands like Adidas, Nike, and Champion are saturating the market right now, there are still tons of other stores selling similar looks for much, much less. Don’t feel the need to buy the brand names. I’ve seen Forever 21 and Pretty Little Thing outfits that look a million and a half times better than the designer ones. Use what you have and what’s in your price range. Like they say, you don’t have to spend a million bucks to look like a million bucks.

I hope this post motivated you to start wearing athleisure clothing. We finally have a trend that lets us be overly comfortable, but still high fashion at the same time—we should take advantage of it while we can! I understand if it’s not your “look” but just give it a chance. I never thought it was my look either, but after seeing how some of the outfits fit and the photos being shot, I starting thinking to myself, “Oh okay, maybe this is my look…”

The bottom line: don’t be afraid to try a new look, you might end up loving it.
