Here's Really Why Rosewater is Actually So Good for Your Skin

Any beauty-lover knows that rosewater has been one of the most up-and-coming trends in the beauty industry over the past year or so. It smells feminine, fresh, and just makes you feel beautiful.

Rosewater has been incorporated into so many recent beauty products such as facial sprays, moisturizers, and even makeup wipes—but why?

Well, that’s what we’re getting down to the bottom of today: what exactly makes rosewater so special?

Although rosewater is one of the beauty industry’s biggest trends right now, it’s benefits have been around for several hundred years in many cultures. According to Food in Medieval Times, rose petals were commonly used as a Persian culinary tool to flavor and scent dishes before rosewater was created. From there, rosewater was said to have popped up in Arab cooking and the popularity of this technique continued on. Aside from it’s culinary uses, rosewater has been claimed to be used to wash hands at feasts during the Middle Ages. Rosewater has been credited to be beneficial to the sense organs, heart, and to prevent fainting.

With rosewater’s claim to fame of being so beneficial to our bodies and senses, it’s no surprise that rosewater is actually a common ingredient of perfume. Aside from it’s beautiful scent, rosewater contains anti-inflammatory properties—making it a natural aid for soothing irritation caused by skin disorders such as eczema. Since it helps sooth irritation, it can also help with reducing redness. Rosewater, because of its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to sooth the skin, has also been said to act as an anti-aging product.

Aside from just skincare proposes, rosewater is also said to improve a person’s mood due to its antidepressant and anti-anxiety properties. Being able to take care of both your skin and help with anxiety at the same time…that’s definitely something to smile about!

When it comes to rosewater products, my favorites tend to be more on the skincare side rather than the beauty side. Personally, I have both the Pacifica rosewater makeup removing wipes and the Mario Badescu rosewater facial spray worked into my skincare routine at the moment. I like to use the Pacifica wipes when I’m traveling or after a workout just to freshen up my skin. I use the Mario Badescu spray to prep my face before moisturizing and to set my makeup. There are a ton of other products on the market that use rosewater that you can try, but if you have any questions or need any recommendations, I’d be more than happy to help!
