How to Pull Together a Last-Minute Valentine's Day Date Look

You might be thinking that Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday, and whether you believe that or not, you can’t tell me that it’s not an excuse to look special for a date night and celebrate love.

I actually really love Valentine’s Day. I feel like so many people lose sight of love and forget to celebrate the people in their lives that are special to them. This doesn’t need to be done with gifts or extravagant dates—you can do it by just planning out an evening together and putting in that first-date effort to help keep the spark in your relationship (or friendship). Valentine’s Day gives everyone a universal day to do so.

If you are actually celebrating Valentine’s Day with your significant other, you might have found that this year, the occasion might have snuck up on you. No worries though, I have a few quick little tips to help you pull together the perfect Valentine’s Day look—even if it is last minute.

Outfit

Although red and pink are traditionally the colors you probably think of when you picture Valentine’s Day, don’t pressure yourself into digging through your closet to try to find something that suits that color scheme. Instead, try out a neutral color like black, white, or a shade of beige and use your makeup to make your look more festive.

Personally, I feel like you can never go wrong with an all black outfit. It’s sexy, sophisticated, and so easy to pull together. A classic go-to is a LBD, but black high-waisted trousers, a crop top, and some heels can really make you look incredible as well.

You might be eyeing that sparkly or satin number in your closet that you haven’t quite had the chance to wear yet, so pull it out and try it on. If you feel sexy and special in it, wear it. Valentine’s Day is basically like an ultimate date night, so why not take advantage of it?

Shoes

If you can comfortably walk in heels, wear them. You’ll feel more confident, give the illusion of longer legs, and your look with seem more pulled together and dressy. Once again, it’s a special date night, so why not go for it?

And yes, heeled boots are great too.

Makeup

Makeup is something that really throws a lot of women for a loop when it comes to a date night. Do you go for a natural look or full-on Hollywood glam? Ultimately it’s up to you. If I were you, I would take into consideration what your date typically expresses that they like on you. For example, if they say that they prefer no-makeup on you, go for a more natural, glowy look with some pretty lashes and a shiny gloss. You’ll still feel sexy, and in their eyes, it’ll probably look “natural” (even though you and I both know how much bronzer and highlight you have on is far from natural).

If you don’t know what your date prefers, or you just feel more confident doing your makeup differently, then do whatever will make you feel the most confident and special. At the end of the day, you should be happy with how you feel—red lipstick or not.

Hair

When I picture a person’s hair for Valentine’s Day, I imagine a few looks: a high sleek ponytail (curled or straight), soft loose curls with a side part, naturally bouncy curls, sleek and straight, or tousled Victoria’s Secret-inspired waves. I think all of these styles would look absolutely beautiful on anyone and are perfect for the occasion.

Jewelry

Any outfit you pick—even if you feel like it’s basic—can be transformed with jewelry. When celebrating occasions such as anniversaries or Valentine’s Day, choosing delicate and light-reflecting jewelry help keep your outfit looking chic and romantic.

Finishing Touches

As you’re getting ready to walk out the door, remember the little things (perfume, one more spray of hair spray, brushing those pearly whites once more, swap out your typical purse for a nice clutch or small bag, etc).

…And that’s it! You’re ready for your special date night, whether you’re going to dinner, seeing a movie, staying in and having a romantic evening, or even just spending time with the ladies, you’ll be ready to take on the night and feel all the feels.

I truly hope all of you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day and feel absolutely beautiful inside and out. Remember that Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love; share your love with those around you this year and create special memories.
