Babes You Should Know: Jennifer Callahan

In today's post, all eyes are on Jennifer Callahan. As a blogger based in Los Angeles, Jennifer writes about topics varying from love to lessons she has learned on her blog Love Lulu.

Jennifer was gracious enough to let me feature her in this post and I can't wait for you to learn more about her. So let's get right to it...

Tell me about how you started blogging/influencing…

I was working as a personal assistant in the music industry and spent most of my adult life on tour. I loved it, and loved traveling, but always felt like I was helping someone else live their life while not living mine fully. I did some soul searching and realized (with a push from my Grandma) that I really loved writing and wanted to pursue it full time. I launched Love Lulu in January 2017 and never looked back.

What has been the biggest struggle for you with blogging, social media, collaborations, etc?

Creating a consistent schedule as well as not going stir-crazy while working at home. I combat this by having "work from home" days with my other creative friends (and it led us to launching The Goals Club this year, which is a FB group for entrepreneurs that are pursuing their calling).

What advice would you give to those who are experiencing similar struggles and setbacks?

First of all, schedule your priorities, don't prioritize your schedule (got that from Stephen Covey and highly recommend his book, the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People). Also, find a community that can encourage you and hold you accountable. Following a creative pursuit comes with many challenges and setbacks, so having people that can help motivate you along the way is essential. Also, when things get tough, remember why you started.

What piece of advice have you gotten that has helped you succeed?

Done is better than perfect.

Who do you turn to for inspiration?

I actually get inspired by getting out of my own head and being in nature. I hike a lot and find that a little time away from my phone is really refreshing. As far as "who" I turn to for inspiration, I surround myself with amazing friends who are all pursuing their dreams and constantly inspire me, as well as keeping my Instagram feed full of boss babes I admire.

Let's talk Instagram photos! What are your ultimate go-to apps when editing?

I use Lightroom for editing and that's about it! I also use Snug to preview my feed before I post, and Later for scheduling.

It takes a lot of work to get the perfect IG shot. Do you have any funny moments from shooting?

Oh the things we do for The Gram.... hmm, I mean, one time I was taking a picture of my lunch and then, right after, dropped it on the floor, so that was a fail. Another time, I spent an hour shooting in Venice trying to get "the shot" at various popular locations, and on the way back to the car, I saw an old Volvo parked in front of us, sat on it, and we got "the shot" in about 2 seconds... that day I learned that spontaneity on a shoot goes a long way.

Everyone has their own tips when it comes to social media. What are yours?

Don't forget: this is supposed to be fun! If you aren't enjoying yourself on it, get back to basics. Don't worry so much about a perfectly curated feed (telling myself this one, too!) people like to see authentic moments.

Have you had an "I made it" moment yet?

Well I don't know that I've made it, ha, but it's always really humbling when people recognize you or mention that a post you wrote really spoke to them. I've randomly run into people in New York and LA that knew me from my blog and it's always the weirdest feeling... like, oh right, people actually read this.

What's next?

Hopefully, by the time this gets published I'll have hit 10K on Instagram, ha. Other than that, I want to continue to put out consistent, quality posts and build genuine relationships with people — online and off. I'd also like to travel more with people I love and document the experience... first on my list is Joshua Tree.

A big thank you goes out to Jennifer for letting me feature her in this post. It was so incredible getting to learn about her and what has helped her turn into the boss babe she is today.
